from fltwoodsmonster comes reviews of rare gems from v-cinema/japanese SFX horror: biotherapy, star virgin, the boxer's omen, and the flying luna clipper! for something a little different, they also recommended the cyberpunk feminist (?) tour de force eve of destruction.
superkamicassidy recommends robogeisha for reveling in its stupid premise and having as much fun as it possibly can with it. the stupid image of her as a tank has me in stitches so i gotta check this one out. mario kart lookin ass
laughicate offered up "the peanut butter solution", which i did not remember watching as a child until i read the post. and i have to wonder "what the fuck was up with that. why did they make that".
verifiedaccount posted a pretty interesting look at warhol's adaptation of "a clockwork orange" called "vinyl" and how it functions less as an actual adaptation and more of a historical document peeking into warhol's factory and the people who frequented it. they also posted about a personal favorite of mine, norman mailer's tough guys don't dance. a movie that seemingly fails on nearly every possible level.
my delightful friend mothbeam posted the tokusatsu classic mechanical violator hakaider. toku movies really are perfect submissions for this place because they are all unbelievably goofy as a core concept, but must take themselves deathly seriously in order to "sell" the scenes. they also tend to feature some of the best practical effects humanly possible. absolutely worth a watch.
and last, i sent out a review of wild mountain thyme, which isn't worth anyone's (wild mountain) time. but the experience permanently burned itself into my brain and i at least needed to inform people that the irish are just out here making evil movies for no reason. |
